On April 17, 2026, at approximately 11:56 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of Story Road and Lucretia Avenue to investigate a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2016 silver Chevrolet sedan, occupied by an adult male driver, was traveling eastbound on Story Road through the intersection of Lucretia Avenue when it struck a 2000 green Honda sedan occupied by an adult male driver and an adult female passenger, which was stopped for traffic in the eastbound lanes of Story Road. It was later determined the Chevrolet sedan had been traveling at a high rate of speed after fleeing a prior, unrelated injury collision on Story Road near Remillard Court.
Both vehicles then struck a 2019 white Mercedes sedan occupied by an adult male driver and an adult female passenger, which was also stopped in the eastbound lanes of Story Road.
A 2025 black Toyota sedan, occupied by an adult female driver, was traveling eastbound on Story Road passing the collision when the Chevrolet sedan entered the lane and struck the Toyota.
The driver of the Chevrolet sedan attempted to flee the scene but was unsuccessful. The driver was suspected of being under the influence and was taken into custody. He was later booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for manslaughter, felony DUI, and felony hit and run.
The adult male driver of the green Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. His adult female passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries later determined to be non life threatening.
The other involved parties were not injured.
This incident marks the city’s 15th fatal collision and 15th traffic-related death of 2026.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
