On March 12, 2026, at approximately 10:11 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the 700 block of E. Santa Clara Street in the city of San José for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, Officers located two adult male victims on the ground inside a commercial building, both suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. Officers summoned medical personnel to the scene, where they ultimately pronounced both victims deceased. The unknown suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. 

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Detectives learned that the incident location was operating as an illicit gambling establishment and that all the occupants had fled prior to police arrival. During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified Gustavo Rodriguez as the primary suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. 

On April 27, 2026, with the assistance of the Covert Response Unit, Suspect Rodriguez was located and arrested in San José. He was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder. 

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

This incident was investigated as the City's 5th and 6th homicide of 2026.
