On May 2, 2026, at approximately 3:54 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road to investigate a multi-vehicle traffic collision. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A silver 2020 Mercedes sedan, occupied by an adult male driver and a juvenile passenger, was traveling southbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard when it struck a green 2016 Kia sedan. The Kia, occupied by an adult female driver, was also traveling southbound and was changing lanes to enter the dedicated left-turn lane for eastbound Blossom Hill Road.
Both vehicles then collided with a white 2024 Tesla sedan occupied by an adult male driver, an adult female passenger, and a juvenile passenger. The Tesla was stopped in the dedicated left-turn lane for eastbound Blossom Hill Road, facing southbound. The impact caused the Tesla to collide with a green 2004 BMW sedan that was stopped directly in front of it in the turn lane. The BMW was occupied by an adult male driver.
The force of the collision and resulting chain reaction also caused the Kia to strike a white 2014 Toyota sedan that was stopped in the second designated left-turn lane for eastbound Blossom Hill Road. The Toyota was occupied by an adult female driver.
As the vehicles came to a rest, the silver 2020 Mercedes caught fire with its driver and passenger still inside. Responding officers quickly extricated both occupants and transferred care to medical personnel.
All occupants in the involved vehicles, except for the driver of the green BMW, were transported to local hospitals with varying injuries. The driver of the green Kia succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation; however, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
This incident marks the city’s 18th fatal collision and 18th traffic-related death of 2026.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
