The San José Police Department Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Detail began an investigation into a series of retail thefts that occurred in the County of Santa Clara between March 25, 2026 and May 5, 2026. The preliminary investigation revealed that an adult male suspect stole from multiple retail chain stores located in the cities of San José, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara. In all incidents, the suspect specifically stole large amounts of golf balls. In total, the suspect committed approximately twenty-eight separate thefts, totaling an estimated value of nearly $8,000.
SJPD ORT Investigators began a comprehensive investigation alongside the Santa Clara County High Impact Team and identified the primary suspect as William Yixin Pu.
