On February 15, 2026, at approximately 12:46 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting that occurred inside of a business located in the 90 block of South Second Street. Preliminary investigation revealed the adult male victim was in a verbal altercation with a group of adult male suspects when one of the suspects produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries later determined to be non-life threatening.

The suspect shooter, later identified as Sean James Jr., was swiftly taken into custody by patrol officers after he was restrained by employees on scene. A privately made firearm belonging to the suspect was recovered from the scene. The remaining suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. Suspect James Jr. was subsequently booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder, as well as various firearm-related crimes.

SJPD Gang Investigations Unit (GIU) Detectives immediately began a thorough investigation and identified three additional suspects: Isaac Ortiz-Guerrero, Marteis Sims, and Gabriel Martinez. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for the three suspects and search warrants for their respective residences.

On May 14, 2026, with the assistance of SJPD’s Covert Response Unit (CRU), California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Santa Clara County Adult Probation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force (FBI SSTF), the three suspects were located and arrested. Suspect Sims was arrested in the city of San Leandro, and Suspect Ortiz-Guerrero and Suspect Martinez were arrested in the city of San José. During the execution of the search warrants, Detectives located gang indicia, as well as evidence of the crime. In addition, an illegal firearm was located at Suspect Ortiz-Guerrero's residence.

All three suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder.

The San José Police Department would like to recognize the following law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the successful outcome of this investigation: California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Santa Clara County Adult Probation Department High Risk Offender Unit, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
