On May 31, 2026, at approximately 2:19 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a shooting that occurred in the area of South First Street and East Reed Street. Upon arrival, Officers located three adult male victims, each suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were traveling in a vehicle in the area when an unknown suspect(s) fired multiple gunshots into their vehicle.
All three victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment where one victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The other two victims' injuries were later determined to be non-life threatening. The unknown suspect(s) fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The SJPD Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are under investigation.
This incident is being investigated as the City's 10th homicide of 2026.
