On July 5, 2026, at approximately 1:20 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Bonita Avenue and Sunny Court. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult female victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life saving measures and summoned medical personnel to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was ultimately pronounced deceased.
The SJPD Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
Preliminary information revealed the victim and suspect were known to each other and an adult male suspect was quickly identified. During the course of the investigation he was located in the city of San José and taken into custody. The suspect will be identified at a later date.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.
This incident is being investigated as the City's 14th homicide of 2026.
