On April 4, 2026, at approximately 9:15 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to an attempted murder that occurred outside of a business located in the 3800 block of Seven Trees Boulevard. Six suspects approached the adult male victim and violently assaulted him.  During the assault, the victim lost consciousness, at which point the suspects continued assaulting him.  The victim sustained major life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. The preliminary investigation revealed the attack to be gang-related.

During the course of the investigation, Detectives discovered evidence linking the suspects to a separate violent assault that occurred in March in the city of Sunnyvale.  Additional suspects were also positively identified as Alexander Illescas, Demetrius Martinez, and a sixteen-year-old juvenile male. Subsequently, Detectives discovered additional evidence of one of the juvenile suspects responsible for a gang-motivated firearm brandishing that occurred at an apartment complex located in the 4300 block of The Woods Drive back in February.

GIU Detectives obtained arrest warrants for all eight suspects and search warrants for their associated residences. 

On June 24, 2026, SJPD GIU Detectives conducted a coordinated multi-agency operation to arrest the suspects. During the operation, Suspects Demetrius Martinez, Moses Martinez, and three juvenile suspects were located and arrested in the city of San José. Suspect Illescas was located and arrested in the city of Mountain View.

On June 29, 2026, Suspect Dehoyos was located and arrested in the city of San José.

On July 1, 2026, the 17-year-old juvenile male suspect was located and arrested in the County of Modoc.

During the execution of the search warrants, Detectives located gang indicia and evidence of the crime. All suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail and Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for multiple crimes, including gang-related attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery.

Detectives believe the suspects may be responsible for additional gang-related crimes in south San José.
