The San José Police Department Fraud Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects responsible for the theft and vandalism of the "Thank You, America Monument".

On June 21, 2026, at approximately 1:24 p.m., San José Police officers responded to a report of a grand theft at the Vietnamese Heritage Garden, located in the 1400 block of Roberts Avenue. 

The preliminary investigation revealed that the theft occurred earlier that morning, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. During the incident, two suspects tampered with property at the location and stole several flags and an approximately 9-foot-tall South Vietnamese soldier statue.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. that same day, with assistance from the SJPD Neighborhood Quality of Life Unit, officers located and recovered the stolen South Vietnamese soldier statue near the Coyote Creek Trail and Highway 280.

During the investigation, officers also located a stolen commercial truck believed to have been used during the commission of the crime. Officers determined the truck had been reported stolen on June 18, 2026, from a business located in the 1900 block of Monterey Road.

The suspects have not been identified and remain outstanding.

Detectives are seeking any information that could assist in identifying the suspects pictured below.

The San José Police Department is releasing surveillance photographs and video in hopes that someone may recognize the suspects involved. Community members in the area are encouraged to review their personal surveillance systems for any additional images or video that may assist investigators in identifying the suspects. Even seemingly minor details may be helpful to the investigation.
