On June 9, 2026, at approximately 9:30 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of an invasion of privacy incident at a coffee shop located in the 100 block of East Santa Clara Street. The reporting party, who is an employee of the business, located a hidden camera in their public restroom.
SJPD Sexual Assaults Investigation Unit (SAIU) Detectives began an investigation and discovered the camera had been installed by an adult male suspect the same morning it was reported. With the assistance of the SJPD Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) and the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras, Detectives identified the suspect vehicle and subsequently identified 38-year-old David Perales of the city of San José as the primary suspect. An arrest warrant was obtained for the suspect.
On July 2, 2026, Suspect Perales was located and arrested in the city of San José. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for invasion of privacy.
