In May of 2026, San José Police Department Robbery Unit Detectives conducted comprehensive investigations into a string of armed robberies that occurred at various businesses throughout the city of San José.
On May 23, 2026, at approximately 3:35 AM, Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a business located in the 2500 block of S. King Road. Five suspects entered the business and one suspect brandished a firearm at the victim. Four of the suspects went behind the counter and took boxes of various items from the business. The suspects fled the scene in two suspect vehicles prior to police arrival.
On May 26, 2026, at approximately 12:34 AM, Officers responded to a report of a commercial burglary and armed robbery that occurred at a business located in the 700 block of S. Winchester Boulevard. Six unknown suspects entered the business and one suspect was armed with a firearm. The victims feared for their lives. The suspects took various items from the business and fled the scene in two suspect vehicles prior to police arrival.
Robbery Unit Detectives utilized Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras to identify one of the suspect vehicles used during the armed robberies. Subsequently, Detectives identified one 15-year-old juvenile as a primary suspect. On May 26, 2026, SJPD Patrol Officers located the suspect vehicle with the juvenile suspect in the city of San José. Detectives obtained a residential search warrant for the juvenile suspect’s residence. During the course of the search, Detectives located the firearm used in the robberies. The juvenile suspect was later booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for robbery.

During the course of the investigation, additional suspects were positively identified as Moses Martinez, Frank Maldonado, and three (3) juvenile males. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for all suspects, as well as search warrants for their residences.
On June 24, 2026, with the assistance of the Covert Response Unit (CRU), Detectives located and apprehended suspect Martinez and two juvenile suspects in the city of San Jose. The juvenile suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for crimes related to robbery. Suspect Martinez was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for crimes related to robbery.
On July 1, 2026, with the assistance of the Modoc County Sherriff's Office, the 17-year-old juvenile male suspect was located and arrested in the County of Modoc. The juvenile suspect was later transported to San José and booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for crimes related to robbery.
On July 2, 2026, with the assistance of CRU, Detectives located and arrested Suspect Maldonado in the city of Milpitas. The suspect was later booked later into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for crimes related to robbery.
During the residential searches of the suspects' residences, Detectives located evidence linking the suspects to the robberies. Additionally, during the search of Suspect Maldonado's residence, Detectives located items that were taken from the businesses, as well as a separate firearm pictured below.
