On July 6, 2026, at approximately 8:46 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred in a parking garage located in the 40 block of North San Pedro Street. The adult male victim was approached by two male suspects who forcibly snatched a gold chain from his neck and fled on foot. The victim pursued both suspects in an attempt to recover his property, at which point one of the suspects brandished a firearm at the victim and verbally threatened him. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.

On July 12, 2026, at approximately 11:55 AM, SJPD Patrol Officers responded to a report of armed robbery and attempted murder that occurred in the 2400 block of Amaryl Drive. The adult male victim was in the area with his family when he was approached by a male suspect who forcibly took his gold chain and fled on foot. When the victim attempted to retrieve his necklace, the suspect brandished a firearm and fired multiple shots at the victim, striking the victim at least once. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle operated by another subject. The victim was transported to a local hospital for multiple gunshot wounds later determined to be non-life threatening.

SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives began a thorough investigation into both incidents. Utilizing City of San José public safety cameras and Automated License Plate Reader cameras, Detectives identified the same suspect vehicle associated to both incidents, and subsequently identified two suspects: Yahir Meza, and a 17-year-old juvenile male suspect who was the primary shooter.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for both suspects and search warrants for their associated residences.

On July 16, 2026, with the assistance of the SJPD Covert Response Unit, Detectives located and arrested both suspects in the city of San José. During the execution of the search warrant, Detectives located evidence of the crime, including one of the victims’ gold chain necklace.

Suspect Meza was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for robbery.

The juvenile suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall for robbery and attempted murder.
