On July 15, 2026, at approximately 12:59 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive female adult inside a residence located in the 2100 block of Lanai Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers located the adult female victim who was not conscious and not breathing. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, the victim was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.

A person of interested, Marco Jimenez, was detained at the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim and person of interest were known to each other.

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and assisted the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner with the investigation. At the time, the victim had minor visible injuries, but no obvious signs of fatal trauma were observed.

On July 16, 2026, the Office of the Medical Examiner notified Detectives the manner of death was ruled as homicide.

During the course of the investigation, with the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, Detectives contacted Suspect Jimenez in the city of San José and took him into custody. The suspect was subsequently booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.

This incident is being investigated as the City's 15th homicide of 2026.
