SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #27 of 2026

On July 18, 2026, at approximately 10:25 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of North Leigh Avenue and Patio Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A Silver 2016 Toyota Camry sedan, occupied by an adult male driver and two adult female passengers, was traveling northbound on North Leigh Avenue approaching the intersection with Patio Drive when it struck an adult female pedestrian who was on the roadway of North Leigh Avenue outside of any marked crosswalks.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with major injuries and later stabilized. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On August 3, 2026, SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives were notified that the pedestrian had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on August 2, 2026.

This incident marks the city’s 27th fatal collision and 27th traffic-related death of 2026. This is also the 13th pedestrian death of 2026.

The identity of the decedent will be released by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
