What is the Community Partnership Academy?
The San José Police Department Community Partnership Academy is a program designed to educate residents on the various aspects of law enforcement. It is for those interested in learning more about how the San José Police Department functions and operates. There are many misconceptions about police duties, and the Academy will help dispel these notions and allow community members a closer look at their Police Department.
The goal of the program is to open the lines of communication and encourage interaction between our police officers and the community. Graduates of the Academy will acquire a solid foundation of public safety information to share with others in the community.
The Community Partnership Academy is not intended to train the participants to be police officers, but rather it is designed for those interested in a deeper understanding of the various challenges and decisions that a San José Police Officer deals with on a daily basis.
The Community Partnership Academy will be a 10-week program designed to provide our communities with a greater understanding of law enforcement and a behind the scenes, in-depth look at SJPD's organizational structure, functions, and operational procedures.
The purpose of the CPA is to accomplish three goals:
- To create an informative and engaging experience while educating community members on the training, procedures, and the pressures associated with law enforcement.
- To allow the community to meet the men and women who serve them.
- To provide Police Department employees with the opportunity to meet and hear from the community they serve.
This program invites community members to learn more about the San José Police Department and gain insight into the training and responsibilities of our officers. The San José Police Department's Community Partnership Academy is centered on building strong partnerships, encouraging open dialogue, and strengthening trust between the department and the diverse communities it serves, all in support of a safer and more connected San José.
