Filed under Press Release, on 4/29/2016 12:48:00 PM by Author: Sergeant Enrique Garcia #2936.

Press Release

San Jose, Calif.- Over the past several months, the San Jose Police Department has coordinated with the City’s Finance Department to competitively purchase a fully hosted Body-Worn Camera solution. Pursuant to the City's purchasing policies, all proposers were notified of the City's intent to award a contract to Taser International, Inc. This recommendation will be considered for final approval by the San Jose City Council. This is great news for the Police Department and the community we serve as we are one step closer to the deployment of body worn cameras in the City of San Jose. We anticipate a successful outcome during the next phase of the procurement as City staff works with Taser International, Inc. to negotiate and execute the final contract. During this time, the Department will continue its outreach and prepare for full deployment of body cameras for each of its officers.

“San Jose has the most professional, highly trained, and respected police officers in the nation,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “The addition of body-worn cameras will only strengthen the bonds between our officers and our community. Thank you to the San Jose Police Department and the San Jose Police Officers' Association for all of their hard work in getting these cameras deployed this fiscal year.”

Chief Eddie Garcia said, "I am looking forward to working with Taser and our officers on the rollout of the Body-Worn Cameras. I too would like to acknowledge the leadership of the Police Officers Union and our community for working together to make this possible. We are a highly professional organization, and the BWCs will enhance our relationship with the residents of San Jose."
