Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Hit & Run on 12-10-16

Suspect: Jonathan Espino Ruiz 

San Jose: On Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 3:06 AM, San Jose Police Officers responded to a report of a person down at E. Hedding St. and N. 15th St. in San Jose. Arriving officers located an adult male lying on the ground. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound E. Hedding St. at N.  15th St. The vehicle fled the scene and the driver was unknown.

On Sunday December 11, 2016, patrol officers Rafael Varela #3628 and Frank Montoya #3644 conducted follow-up investigation and determined Ruiz was the driver. Detective Kevin McMillin #3409 took over the investigation. Ruiz was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Felony Hit & Run and other charges not associated with this investigation.

This was the City's 42nd fatal traffic collision and 44th victim of 2016. This was also the 18th auto vs. pedestrian fatality of 2016.
