San Jose, CA — On Thursday, December 28, 2017, at about 11:58 PM, San Jose police officers responded to a person stabbed in the 200 block of Sunset Ave. in San Jose. Arriving officers located victim Miramontez suffering from at least one stab wound. Miramontez was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Follow up investigation by Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office Criminal Investigators Mike Montonye and Ray Avalos, along with Detective Sergeant Isidro Bagon and Detective Ramon Sanchez of the San Jose Police Department's Homicide Unit, led to the identification of the above listed suspects.

Three of the suspects were juveniles, all of whom were already in custody at Juvenile Hall or the James Boys Ranch in Morgan Hill on unrelated charges. The fourth suspect is currently an adult, but was a juvenile at the time of the homicide. That suspect was already in custody at Elmwood on unrelated adult charges. The fifth suspect, Jonathan Ruano Najera, was arrested on July 25, 2019, in Everett, WA by the Everett Police Department on a warrant charging him with murder.  

One of the juvenile suspects was arrested for being an accessory to murder (32 PC). All other suspects were arrested and charged with first degree murder (187 PC). All suspects are currently in custody. Ruano-Najera remains in custody in Washington awaiting extradition back to San Jose.
